Tema: "Undisturbed"

A city comes into its own in its most extreme weather... the logic being that the architecture and infrastructure of the city adapt to that weather. For Chicago, that means the buildings are designed with generous amounts of snow and extremely cold temperatures in mind. Chicago's weather builds up over the flat prairies to the city's west. It then goes to battle over the city, overwhelming the buildings with inhabitants huddled inside. Then, the weather is then released as it hits Lake Michigan on its way east; the battle over the city now behind it.


Its hard to tell immediately if these images are black and white or color photos that seem like they are black and white because that is what the city looks like when it is awash with snow: buildings and streets and birds become dark edges carved in swirling, fluffy white space. But the mood is calm; the weather may be extreme, but there is no sense of urgency because the city is doing the job it was built to do. And then when the images turn to the east over the lake as the weather rolls out unimpeded by the open water and undisturbed by the violence it tried to inflict earlier.



Una ciudad se adentra en su clima mas extremo. Su diseño esta preparado para grandes cantidades de nieve y temperatura de varios grados bajo cero. El frio en Chicago llega desde las llanuras del del oeste y cuando entra en la ciudad choca con el aire frío del lago Michigan , aplastando a los edificios con sus habitantes testigos de la batalla de la naturaleza

Es difícil decir si las imágenes son en blanco y negro o en color, quizas parezcan en blanco y negro porque ese es el tono de la nieve: los edificios , las calles y de las aves, que se muestran con bordes oscuros tallados en remolinos. Y espacios en blanco esponjosos alla donde la vista alcanza.

Si embargo, la mirada es serena, y el estado de animo tranquilo. Vemos como la naturaleza se muestra con intensidad , pero no hay sentido de urgencia y la belleza se convierte en cotidianidad y a nuestro paso las imágenes se despliegan sobre mar abierto imperturbado por la violencia que antes intentaron imponer
